Molokai

From Oahu, we took a day trip over to Molokai to ride mules down a trail (with 26 switchbacks) to Kalaupapa. Kalaupapa is the lepor colony that is isolated from the everything. The
only way to get there is fly or by trail (foot or mule).

Father Damien, a Catholic priest, lived there and helped the "patients" adjust to life with the disease. He died of the disease on the island.

Today, leporacy can be treated with medication, however there is still no cure.
