Volcanos National Park

We spent an entire day at Volcanos National Park. We started out driving around Kilauea crater, and venturing into the Thurston Lava tube. It was incredibly dark in there. We took a break for a late lunch, drove down Chain of Craters Road to its end where the recent lava flows cover it. From there, we hiked 1 mile out over the lava on a marked path. We could see the steam rising out of the ocean about a half mile away. We ventured further, and were treated to an awesome lava display where the molten rock was flowing into the ocean. Breathtaking!
The next day, we took a helicopter tour of the volcanos and were able to see from the air what we saw the night before.
